This course focused on the theory and practice of video editing and post-production. It allowed me to experiment with footage from past student films, and get a taste of the different areas of post-production; such as narrative editing techniques, color correction, and audio post-production. Taking this course online during the pandemic was tricky, but it’s where I truly fell in love with editing.

In my student film crew, Aardvark Productions, we were assigned rotating roles for each of our projects, and together, we shot original student screenplays.

Experiencing the different vrew roles and shooting on sets was fascinating. It gave me an even greater respect for the craft, especially in pre-production planning areas. I learned to collaborate as part of a production team to bring a united vision to life.

This course introduced me to the basic elements of a successful dramatic screenplay. Over the course of the semester, I wrote an original script called Hold On to Me.
It’s an autobiographical story about domestic violence and sisterhood. A year after I graduated the capstone filmmaking course at UW-Madisonselected it to be produced. My short film was showcased in May of 2023, and I couldn’t be more proud of the UW student film crew Strive Nine Productions for bringing my work to life. The film was picked up by two film festivals in 2024: Indie Gathering International Film Festival and Red Cedar Film Festival. If you’d like to learn more about the film or see the trailer, visit my College Projects tab.
This course had a particular emphasis on story concept, dramatic structure, character development, dialogue, and visual storytelling. Taking this course in combination with my other production courses gave me a well-rounded education about what it means to make a film, all the way from its inception to its exhibition.
